The Martyrdom of Three Christian Saints

In the year 308 AD, the governor of Amasia Pontica, Asclepiodotus, summoned three Christian prisoners: Eutropius, Cleonicus, and Basiliskos. These pious individuals had been languishing in prison for their unwavering faith.

Brutal Torture and Execution

The guards mercilessly beat the prisoners and then dragged them to a pagan temple, determined to force them to renounce their beliefs. However, their resolve remained unyielding. Enraged, the tormentors resorted to horrific measures, impaling the martyrs on tall wooden stakes and dousing their bodies with scalding pitch. With iron hooks, they tore at their flesh, inflicting unimaginable pain. To further torment them, the executioners sprinkled a mixture of mustard, salt, and vinegar onto their wounds.

Crucifixion and Martyrdom

As dawn approached on March 3rd, the tormentors turned their attention to Eutropius and Cleonicus. They ruthlessly crucified them, ending their earthly existence. Basiliskos, who had endured the unspeakable torture with unwavering faith, met his martyrdom at a later date.

Legacy of the Saints

The cruel treatment and ultimate death of these three Christian martyrs only served to strengthen the resolve of others who believed in the teachings of Christ. Eutropius, Cleonicus, and Basiliskos became symbols of unwavering faith and the willingness to endure hardship for the sake of their beliefs. Their memory is still honored by the Christian Church on March 3rd, a testament to their unwavering courage and the transformative power of their faith.
