Early Life and Military Service
Guliaev completed his education at the Kiev Real School (1906), Kiev Military School (1908), and the Sevastopol Aviation Officer School (1914). He served in the 40th Artillery Brigade from 1908 and later became a pilot-observer in the 1st Army Aviation Detachment in 1915. During World War I and the Russian Civil War, he fought bravely in various battles.
Aviation Career
In 1914, Guliaev earned his pilot's license. He became a staff pilot-observer in the 1st Army Aviation Detachment in February 1915. He later served in the Kronstadt Fortress Aviation Detachment from July 1916.
