Early Life and Career
In 2002, Laine Jänes joined the Reform Party. Her political career began as Mayor of the city of Tartu. In 2007, she was appointed Minister of Culture of Estonia.
Ascendancy in Estonian Politics
In 2011, Jänes was elected First Vice-Speaker of the Riigikogu, Estonia's parliament. She served in this role until 2015. During this period, she was also a member of the Reform Party parliamentary faction.
Leadership in Cultural Policy
In 2015, Jänes was re-elected to the Riigikogu. She assumed the role of Chairwoman of the Culture Committee. In this position, she has been instrumental in shaping Estonia's cultural policy.
