Miss Angola UK 2010
Leila Lopes embarked on her beauty pageant journey by winning the Miss Angola UK 2010 title in October 2010. Despite protests within the British Angolan community, claiming she was ineligible as a non-resident, she earned the right to represent the country at Miss Angola 2010.

Two months later, Lopes triumphed again, winning the Miss Angola 2010 crown in Luanda. After claiming the national title, she became the country's representative for Miss Universe 2011. Her win also awarded her the title of Miss Photogenic.
Miss Universe 2011
On September 12, 2011, at the 60th anniversary Miss Universe pageant in São Paulo, Brazil, Lopes ascended to the pinnacle of beauty pageantry, becoming the first Angolan woman to claim the prestigious title. She received her crown from the reigning Miss Universe, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico. As the fourth African woman to win Miss Universe, Lopes followed in the footsteps of South Africa (1978), Namibia (1992), and Botswana (1999). Notably, she became the second Black African to triumph after Mpule Kwelagobe.
International Reign
Following her historic win, Lopes embarked on a global tour, visiting Indonesia, Gabon, Germany, and France. She attended the Puteri Indonesia 2011 pageant in Jakarta, crowned the first Miss Gabon in Libreville, participated in a military base tour in Düsseldorf, and graced the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, she toured five West African countries in 2012, and made numerous appearances in Brazil, Singapore, the Bahamas, Jamaica, South Africa, the Dominican Republic, and the United States.
Allegations of Document Forgery
Currently, Lopes faces allegations of forged documents that allowed her to participate in Miss Angola UK 2010. She has denied these claims, stating that she had been living in the UK for four years, including two years as a university student. If the accusations are proven true, she may face the revocation of her crowns.
