Les Allen Biography
Les Allen, an American football player and manager, began his football career at the age of sixteen. He made his debut as a forward in February 1953, playing for the senior team. Allen's career took a memorable turn when he participated in an unforgettable quarter-final match of the Non-League Cup under the auspices of the Football Association at Victoria Road Stadium against the title-holding team of the 1950s, "Pegasus". In this match, Dagenham's team emerged victorious with a score of 3-0, with Allen scoring one of the goals and also helping in preventing two other goals from the opponents.
Early Career and Move to Chelsea
Allen, supported by the company "Ford," a long-time partner of European football, signed a contract in September 1954 to become a new player for the football club "Chelsea." He proved to be an impressive center forward, scoring a total of 11 goals in 44 league matches. However, in December 1959, Allen joined the English Premier League club from London, "Tottenham Hotspur." It was during his time at Tottenham that Allen, alongside his teammate Bobby Smith, formed a deadly duo, scoring 47 goals in 119 matches during the 1960-1961 season. However, his career took a downturn when Jimmy Greaves joined "Hotspur."
Later Career and Management
Following his time at "Tottenham Hotspur," Allen transferred to the team "Queens Park Rangers" in July 1965. He scored 55 goals in 123 matches and appeared as a substitute five times. Allen was a member of the "Q.P.R." team that became the first team in the Third Division to win the League Cup. After his retirement as an active football player, Allen pursued a career in management. He joined "Swindon Town" in November 1972 as the manager after Dave Mackay's departure. However, his tenure at the club was short-lived, and he was dismissed in February 1974. Later, Allen became a manager in Salonika, Greece.
Personal Life
Currently, Allen divides his time between living with his wife in Hornchurch, Essex, and a quiet village called Suni near Limassol in Cyprus. His brother Dennis, sons Clive and Bradley, as well as nephews Martin and Paul, all play professional football. Additionally, his grandson Oliver, Clive's son, has chosen to continue the family tradition and currently plays for the club "Stevenage Borough."
