Levi Keith Johnston was born on May 3, 1990, to Keith and Sherry Johnston. He comes from a mixed Mexican and Canadian heritage. Growing up, Levi was an active hockey player, although he never completed his education. It was during his school years that he began dating Bristol Palin, his future fiancee.

Levi gained national attention in August 2008 when Sarah Palin, then a candidate for Vice President of the United States, announced that her daughter Bristol was pregnant and Levi was the father.
