Liviu Palikhovich - A Moldovan Politician and Statesman
Early Life and EducationLiliana Vasilievna Palikhovich was born on November 26, 1971, in the village of Gorodishche, Calarasi district, Moldavian SSR. In 1994, she graduated from the Faculty of History at the State University of Moldova. In 1999, she obtained a postgraduate degree in Modern Foreign Languages. She furthered her education by studying International Relations at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Moldova from 2001 to 2003.
Professional Career
Palikhovich began her career in 1993 as a history teacher at the Mircea Eliade Lyceum in Chisinau. From 1995 to 2001, she held the position of Chief Specialist for Youth Issues in the Department of Youth of the Ministry of Education. In 2001, she became the Head of the Youth Department of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Moldova, a position she held until 2003. From 2004 to 2007, Palikhovich worked as a consultant for UNICEF, coordinating a project on expanding the socio-economic rights and opportunities of youth. She also served as a consultant for the World Bank from 2007 to 2008.
Political Journey
In 2007, Palikhovich was part of the initiative group that established the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM). At the founding congress of the party, she was elected as its Vice-Chairwoman. She was elected to parliament twice in 2009, and again in 2010 and 2014, on the LDPM lists. She has been a member of the parliamentary committee on Social Protection, Health, and Family since 2009.
On December 30, 2010, Palikhovich was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Parliament of Moldova. Following the resignation of Marian Lupu, she served as the Acting Chairperson of the Parliament of Moldova from April 25 to May 30, 2013.
Family and Awards
Palikhovich is married to Sergiu Palikhovich, who currently serves as the Secretary General of the Government of Moldova. She has two sons, Dan-Marius and Angel-David. In 2014, she was awarded the Order of the Republic, the highest state honor of Moldova.
