Early Life and Career

Born on June 15, 1998, in Milan, Italy, Tortu began his athletic journey in 2016 while participating in school games. Initially, he was a footballer, but he soon discovered his talent for sprinting. In 2017, he competed in the 60-meter dash at the national indoor championship, finishing in second place.

Breakthrough in Athletics

In 2018, Tortu shifted his focus solely to athletics and began training under coach Francesco Garau. He excelled in the under-20 category, winning Italian titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. He also represented Italy at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in the 200-meter event and the 4×100-meter relay.

International Success

Tortu continued to impress in subsequent years. In 2019, he finished as a silver medalist in the 4×100-meter relay at the European Athletics U-20 Championships. The following year, he achieved a personal best of 10.31 seconds in the 100-meter dash, earning him the national under-23 championship.
