He entered politics in the early 19th century, serving as a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies during the reign of Louis-Philippe. Carné became known for his staunch opposition to the government and his support for the Ultramontane movement.

Beyond his political career, Carné made significant contributions to French historiography. He published numerous articles in influential journals such as "Journal des Débats" and "Revue des Deux Mondes." His historical works included:
