Early Career
Lucas Torreira is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sampdoria in the Italian Serie A. His football journey began in 2013 when he joined the youth academy of Uruguayan club Montevideo Wanderers. A year later, he made the move to Pescara's academy in Italy.
Senior Debut with Pescara
Ahead of the 2014/15 season, Torreira was promoted to Pescara's first team. He made his professional debut on May 16, 2015, starting against Varese. He became a regular starter by the end of the season.
Transfer to Sampdoria
On July 1, 2015, Torreira signed a contract with Sampdoria for a transfer fee of €1.5 million. However, as part of the deal, he returned to Pescara on loan.
Return to Sampdoria and Serie A Debut
Torreira rejoined Sampdoria before the 2016/17 season. On August 21, 2016, he made his Serie A debut against Empoli, starting the match and playing the full 90 minutes.
International Debut
Torreira received his first international call-up in March 2018. He made his debut for the Uruguay national team in a friendly match against the Czech Republic, coming on as a substitute in the 68th minute.
