Lucian Bute is a Romanian professional boxer who has held the IBF super middleweight title from 2007 to 2012.

Debut and Rise to Prominence

Bute made his professional debut in November 2003. In June 2007, he faced Sakio Bika for the IBF super middleweight title. Bute dominated the fight, landing more accurate punches. In the 10th round, Bika headbutted Bute, resulting in a penalty. Bute emerged victorious by unanimous decision.

Championship Reign: Victory over Berrio

In October 2007, Bute fought champion Alejandro Berrio in Canada. In the 11th round, Bute trapped Berrio in the corner and delivered a series of punches to the head. Berrio dropped his hands, and Bute unleashed a double hook and a powerful left hook that sent Berrio reeling. The referee stopped the fight, declaring Bute the new champion.

Triumph over Former Champion Joppy

In February 2008, Bute faced former WBA middleweight champion William Joppy. Despite Joppy's lack of recent success, the IBF sanctioned the bout as a championship fight. Bute dominated, landing a right hook in the 9th round that sent Joppy staggering. A second left hook put Joppy down, and though he rose, the referee counted him out. In the 10th round, another left hook and a hook to the open head forced Joppy to retreat and take a knee. Bute capitalized by delivering a series of punches, forcing Joppy down again. The referee ended the fight without a count.
