Biography of Lyudmila Savelieva
Lyudmila Savelieva was born in Leningrad during the blockade. In 1962, she graduated from the A. Ya. Vaganova Leningrad Choreographic School and was accepted into the troupe of the Kirov Theater of Opera and Ballet (now the Mariinsky Theater). Her ballet career was going well, and she even made her first appearance on screen in 1964 in an adaptation of the ballet "Sleeping Beauty".

Chance Encounter with Sergei Bondarchuk
However, it was during the preparations for the film "War and Peace" that Savelieva caught the attention of assistant director Sergei Bondarchuk. Despite having no prior experience in film, Savelieva was invited to Moscow for an audition to play the role of Natasha Rostova. Bondarchuk initially found her unremarkable, but something about her intrigued him, and he asked her to come back the next day. Savelieva was initially disappointed by the rejection but mustered the strength to return for another audition. This time, when she put on the costume and makeup, she transformed into Natasha. Bondarchuk's opinion of Savelieva's acting abilities changed, and she was eventually selected for the role.

Success in "War and Peace"
The filming of "War and Peace" lasted several years, and the film gained immense interest even before it was completed, with America and Japan already purchasing the rights for distribution. Bondarchuk created an epochal masterpiece, featuring some of the biggest names in Soviet cinema. Savelieva did not get lost in this star-studded company and delivered a remarkable performance as Natasha Rostova. The film went on to achieve international success, receiving an Oscar from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Continued Acting Career
After leaving the ballet, Savelieva became an actress at the Cinema Actor Studio in 1967. She continued to act in various films, including "The Chase" and "The Seagull," for which she received awards at the Moscow Film Festival. She also had the opportunity to work with renowned international actors such as Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni in the film "Sunflowers."

Personal Life
In the same period, Savelieva married actor Alexander Zbruev. They remained together despite rumors of their separation. Savelieva took a break from acting in the 1990s but returned in the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in films such as "The Clock Without Hands" and "The Tender Age."
Current Life and Legacy
