Luis Aguiar: Uruguayan Midfielder
Beginnings in MontevideoLuis Aguiar embarked on his footballing journey with Liverpool FC of Montevideo. At the tender age of 17, he made his debut for the club's first team, appearing in 35 matches and scoring 3 goals between 2003 and 2006.
Loan Spells and Time in Chile
In 2006, Aguiar was loaned to Chilean side Universidad de Concepción, where he netted an impressive 9 goals in 31 appearances. Upon returning to Liverpool, he briefly played 15 matches and scored twice in the 2006/07 Uruguayan league season.
European Adventure
Aguiar's international journey began with a move to Portuguese giants FC Porto in 2007. However, he was quickly loaned out to Estrela da Amadora, followed by a spell at Académica de Coimbra in January 2008. With Académica, he made a name for himself, scoring a notable goal against Benfica in a 3-0 victory.
Bragging Rights with Sporting Braga
In July 2008, Aguiar signed a contract with Sporting Braga, despite receiving offers from various clubs in Spain and Portugal. He became a key player for Braga, contributing 4 goals and 6 assists in 27 league matches. In the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, he showcased his attacking prowess, scoring 6 goals in 10 appearances.
A Russian Odyssey
On June 1, 2009, Aguiar made a significant transfer to Moscow's FC Dynamo for a fee of 2.5 million euros. He debuted with a goal against Khimki on August 2. However, his time in Russia was short-lived.
Return to Braga and Beyond
In January 2010, Aguiar returned to Sporting Braga on loan until May. The following August, he was loaned out again, this time for a year. In early 2011, he joined Peñarol on loan before finally terminating his contract with Dynamo in July 2011. He then became a free agent and signed a four-year deal with Sporting Lisbon.
Personal Connection
Luis Aguiar's brother, Carlos, is also a professional footballer who plays for Académica.
