Early Life and Football Career

Luke Baker began his football journey at age 11 with the Amsterdam-based club, Spartan. By 18, he had secured a spot in the youth team of Ajax. In 1956, at the tender age of 19, Baker made his debut with Ajax's first team. His debut match was a triumphant 6-1 victory over Zeeburgia in the first round of the Dutch Cup.

Shortly after his professional debut, Baker suffered a severe knee injury in a match against NAC. This devastating setback prevented him from continuing his playing career with Ajax. Despite undergoing two knee surgeries in 1956, Baker decided to retire from football in 1960.

Transition to Coaching

Following his retirement as a player, Baker transitioned into the role of coach. He guided the Dimen football club to promotion to the third tier of Dutch football in 1975, marking a significant success in his coaching career.
