Lyndon Johnston: A Figure Skating Legacy

Early Career

Lyndon Johnston, a renowned Canadian figure skater, rose to prominence in the field of pairs skating. Alongside his partner, Melinda Kanhegyi, he captured two silver medals at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1984 and 1985. Together, they represented Canada at the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Partnership with Denise Benning

After skating with Kanhegyi, Johnston formed a three-year partnership with Denise Benning. The duo went on to win two silver and one bronze medal at the Canadian Championships. They also competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Triumph with Cindy Landry

Following the Canadian Championships, Johnston paired up with Cindy Landry. Together, they achieved a remarkable milestone by winning a silver medal at the 1989 World Championships.

Coaching Success

Post-retirement, Johnston transitioned into coaching and has established a formidable presence at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. His renowned students include pairs teams Kady Denny and Jeremy Barrett, as well as Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig.
