Early Life and Education
Mouhammad Boun Abdallah Dionne was born on September 22, 1959, in Gossas, Senegal. He received an engineering degree in computer science.
Career in Development and Diplomacy
Dionne served in various international development organizations, including the Central Bank of West African States, UNIDO, UNCTAD, and the Senegalese embassy in Paris. He also held the position of Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Macky Sall.
Presidency and Prime Ministership
In March 2014, Dionne was appointed as an advisor to the president with the rank of minister, responsible for implementing Senegal's development plan. Following the ruling party's defeat in municipal elections, President Sall dismissed Prime Minister Aminata Touré on July 4. Two days later, Dionne was appointed as the new prime minister.
Accomplishments as Prime Minister
During his tenure as prime minister, Dionne oversaw significant economic growth and the implementation of the Plan Senegal Emergent development plan. He also strengthened Senegal's international relations and played a key role in regional diplomacy.
Legacy and Death
Mouhammad Dionne died on April 5, 2024, in Paris. He had been evacuated to France shortly before the Senegalese presidential elections on March 24, 2024. He is remembered as a dedicated public servant and a visionary leader who contributed to Senegal's economic and political development.
