Biography of Mahir Bakhtiyar Javadov
Early Life and EducationMahir Bakhtiyar Javadov, an Azerbaijani political and state figure, was born in 1951. He grew up in a family of four children, being the eldest among them. His father, Bakhtiyar Magerram oglu Javadov, worked as a mathematics teacher and later in the prosecutor's office. His mother, Tamara Seyid Farrukh kizi Javadova (Aliyeva), hailed from the village of Seyidlara in the Lachin district.
Javadov attended several different schools during his childhood, including those in the cities of Sheki, Barda, and Shamakhi. In 1967, he received his high school diploma from the Agdam Secondary School No. 2. During his school years, Javadov excelled in literature, history, and mathematics.
After completing his secondary education, Javadov enrolled in the law faculty of Baku State University, where he studied in Russian. He graduated in 1976, earning a degree in law. During his university years, he developed a passion for classical wrestling and underwent military training, subsequently attaining the rank of lieutenant.
Career in Prosecution and Political Activism
From March 1977 to October 1994, Javadov worked in various positions within the prosecutor's office of the Azerbaijan Republic. In 1994, he was elected Chairman of the Republican Independent Union of Free Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan.
Javadov's father had gained respect and authority among the residents of the Zangazur-Karabakh zone due to his work and life in the Lachin, Gubadly, Barda, and Agdam districts. The family had numerous relatives and friends in the region, along with economic interests in the form of property and livestock. As a result, when the conflict in Karabakh began, Javadov and his brother Rovshan found themselves at the center of events.
Rovshan Javadov, Mahir's younger brother, served in various positions within law enforcement agencies and held a high-ranking position as the deputy minister of internal affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic. His involvement in the conflict resolution and his leadership roles further added to the influence and prominence of the Javadov family in Karabakh.
Current Life and Opposition
Currently, Mahir Bakhtiyar Javadov resides in Salzburg, Austria, where he lives as a political exile. He is known for his opposition to the current authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and he is considered one of the leaders of the "Free Azerbaijan" movement. Despite being in exile, Javadov continues to advocate for democracy and human rights in Azerbaijan.
