Early Life and Education
Born on August 11, 1965, in Užice, Serbia, Natasa Micic pursued a law degree at the University of Belgrade. While in graduate school, she married Miodrag Micic, a descendant of Serbian Prince Milos Obrenovic and owner of a private computer firm.
Political Career
Entry into PoliticsMicic entered the political arena in 1994, actively participating in the movement against then-president Slobodan Milosevic. She joined the Civic Union of Serbia, led by Goran Svilanovic, who recommended her for the position of Speaker of Parliament in 2001.
Speaker of Parliament
As Speaker of Parliament, Micic gained prominence for her handling of the assassination investigation of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic in 2003. She vowed to confront organized crime in Serbia, stating, "It must be destroyed."
Acting President
Following two failed presidential elections, Micic took on the role of Acting President, a position she held until autumn of that year.
Controversy
Micic's appearance and personal choices drew attention from local media. A photograph of her exiting a limousine in a miniskirt sparked a debate about appropriate dress for female politicians, which Micic dismissed, asserting, "I wear what I want."
