Early Life and Education
Albana Bregu was born in Albania and earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the University of Tirana in 1996. Her research interests focused on domestic violence and gender equality, and she pursued further studies in sociology at the University of Urbino in Italy, where she received her doctorate in 2005. Bregu also participated in scholarship programs in Oslo, Montreal, and Frankfurt am Oder.
Political Career
Bregu's political journey began with her election as a member of the Democratic Party of Albania's National Council in April 2004. She was elected to parliament in 2005 and served as Press Secretary to Prime Minister Sali Berisha from March 2007 until her appointment as Minister for European Integration later that year. She held the ministerial position from 2007 to 2013.
Scholarship and Advocacy
Throughout her career, Bregu has been an active scholar and advocate for gender equality and human rights. She has authored numerous publications on sexuality, the status of women in Albania, and prostitution.
