Biography of Marcel Hirscher
Marcel Hirscher is an Austrian alpine skier who has achieved an incredible feat by winning both the overall World Cup and two individual Cups. This accomplishment is rare and only a few skiers have managed to achieve it. In 2003, Stefan Eberharter became the second skier to win two World Cups, and in 2013, Marcel Hirscher repeated this extraordinary achievement.
Hirscher made his debut in the World Cup in March 2007. In 2009, he secured a 4th place in the slalom-giant event at the World Championships. However, in 2011, he had to miss the World Championships due to a broken ankle, ending his season prematurely.
In 2013, Hirscher competed in the World Championships in Schladming and had already won the recent World Cup. He maintained his status by winning gold in the slalom, silver in the slalom-giant, and gold in the team competitions.
After recovering from his ankle injury, Hirscher continued to compete and achieved nine victories and 14 podium finishes in the new season. He secured the 1st place in the overall World Cup standings and the 1st place in the slalom-giant standings. In the slalom ranking, Hirscher finished in 3rd place.
At the 2010 Olympic Games, Hirscher finished 4th in the slalom-giant and 5th in the slalom events. In October 2012, he won the Skieur d'Or Award, which was presented by the International Association of Ski Journalists for his outstanding performance in the previous season.
In 2013, Hirscher once again won the overall World Cup title and secured six victories in the World Cup races. He excelled in the technical disciplines, particularly in slalom and slalom-giant, achieving podium finishes in 18 out of 19 races. The only race where he didn't make it to the top three was in Adelboden, where he finished 16th after nearly missing several gates.
Hirscher became the first male skier in the last 10 years to win the World Cup twice, joining the ranks of Stefan Eberharter, another Austrian skier who achieved the same feat in 2002 and 2003.
