Marcus Camby was an American professional basketball player who played for six different teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
All-Star Defender
Camby was renowned as a master of block shots and defensive play. He was named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and was selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team four times. He ranks among the top 50 players in NBA history in career rebounds and blocks.
Career Accomplishments
During his NBA career, Camby achieved four triple-doubles. Notably, he recorded two triple-doubles in the 1997-98 season with the Toronto Raptors (both consisting of points, rebounds, and blocks). A decade later, he added two more triple-doubles with the Denver Nuggets in the 2007-08 season (both featuring points, rebounds, and assists). Additionally, Camby holds the rare achievement of a "five-by-five," a game in which a player records five or more in five different statistical categories.
Trades and Transfers
On March 15, 2012, Camby was traded to the Houston Rockets for Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn, and a future second-round draft pick. On July 11, 2012, he was traded again, this time to the New York Knicks, for Jerome Jordan, Tony Douglas, Josh Harrellson, and two future draft picks.
Retirement and Legacy
Marcus Camby retired from the NBA in 2013. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history, known for his ability to alter shots and protect the paint.
