Biography of Maria Miller

Early Life and Education

Maria Miller was born in London and pursued a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Business Career

Prior to entering politics, Miller worked in advertising for Greys Advertising Ltd and the energy industry for Texaco.

Political Career

Conservative Party Involvement and Parliamentary Elections

Miller became a member of the Conservative Party in 1983. She ran unsuccessfully for Parliament in 2001 but was elected in 2005.

Ministerial Positions

After the 2010 election, Miller served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Employment and Pensions, responsible for disability issues.

In September 2012, she was appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport while also serving as Minister for Women and Equalities.

She held these positions until April 2014, when she resigned over allegations of inappropriate use of public funds.

Leadership Roles

From 2015 to 2020, Miller chaired the Women and Equalities Committee.
