Marie Laforêt, born Maïtena Marie Brigitte Doumenach, was a French actress and singer. She was born in 1939 in Soulac-sur-Mer, Gironde, France. It is known that she had Armenian ancestry, and her real name has Basque and Catalan influences.

During her childhood, Marie grew up in a very religious environment and even considered becoming a nun. However, while studying at Lycee La Fontaine in Paris, she became fascinated with theater.

In 1960, at the age of 19, Marie unexpectedly participated in a vocal radio contest called "Naissance d'une étoile" ("Birth of a Star"). She replaced her sick sister and ended up winning the first prize, which marked the beginning of her singing career.

In the same year, Marie made her debut in the film industry, starring in the crime drama "Plein soleil" ("Purple Noon") alongside Alain Delon. This marked the start of a successful acting career for Laforêt, and she appeared in several French films in the following years.

In 1963, Marie recorded the song "Les Vendanges de l'Amour," which brought her immense fame. She became a high-flying star, known for her sincere and heartfelt singing style.
