Biography of Marios Karoyan
Marios Karoyan, the leader of the right-center Democratic Party, was born on May 31, 1961, in Nicosia, Cyprus, into a family of entrepreneurs. He graduated with honors from Terra Santa College in Nicosia and went on to study political science at the University of Perugia in Italy.
Political Career
After completing his studies, Karoyan served as the head of the youth department of the Democratic Party from 1986 to 1992. He later focused on party relations with trade unions. From May 1991 to June 2001, he worked as the official representative of the Chairman of the Cypriot House of Representatives. He then became the chief of the presidential press service and occasionally acted as the official representative of the Cypriot government. In May 2006, Karoyan was elected to the parliament.
Leader of the Democratic Party
Karoyan's leadership skills and political experience led him to be elected as the leader of the right-center Democratic Party. The DP is one of the most influential political forces on the divided island of Cyprus. According to the press, 63 percent of the party members supported his candidacy, leaving his opponent far behind.

In addition to his native Greek language, Karoyan is fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish. He is married and has two children.
