Early Life and Education
Markéta Gregorová was born on January 14, 1993, in Most, Czech Republic. She graduated from Podkrušnohorská Grammar School in Most and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and European Studies from Masaryk University in Brno in January 2016.
Political Career
Gregorová joined the Czech Pirate Party in 2012. She ran as the third candidate on the Pirate Party's list for the 2014 European Parliament elections but was not elected. In 2016, she unsuccessfully ran for the South Moravian Regional Council as a joint candidate of the Green Party and the Pirate Party.
In 2017, Gregorová campaigned in the general elections but did not secure a seat. However, in the 2018 regional elections, she was elected to the Brno City Council. She resigned from this position in June 2019 following her successful election to the European Parliament.
European Parliament
At the Czech Pirate Party's convention in January 2019, Gregorová was chosen as the party's second candidate for the 2019 European Parliament elections. She received 14,158 votes and was elected as an MEP.
Within the European Parliament, Gregorová is a member of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) and the Special Committee on Foreign Interference in Democratic Processes in the EU (INGE). In 2021, she co-sponsored a proposal to criminalize disinformation alongside fellow Pirate Party members Mikuláš Peksa, Marcel Kolaja, and Patrick Breyer.
Current Role
Markéta Gregorová continues to serve as a Member of the European Parliament, representing the Czech Pirate Party. She is an advocate for internet freedom, transparency, and the fight against disinformation.
