Biography of Mart Poom

Mart Poom is a professional footballer and goalkeeper. He made his debut for the Estonian national team in 1992 and has since had a successful career playing for various clubs.

Early Career

Poom began his career in 1992, when he moved from Estonian club "Sport" to Finnish club KUPS (Kuopio). After playing nine matches for KUPS, he returned to Estonia and joined Flora Tallinn. He then made a move to Swiss club Wil in the 1993/1994 season, before being transferred to English club Portsmouth.

Derby County

In 1996, Poom was sold to Derby County in the English Premier League for a fee of 500,000 pounds. He quickly became the team's first-choice goalkeeper and played a crucial role in helping the team secure a 9th place finish in the 1997/1998 season. Poom was also recognized as the league's best goalkeeper during this time.

Later Career

Poom faced injuries throughout his career, but he remained a consistent player. In the 2001/2002 season, Derby County was relegated from the Premier League, but Poom chose to stay with the team. However, he was eventually loaned to Sunderland before being permanently transferred to the club for a fee of 2.5 million pounds.

After his time at Sunderland, Poom joined various clubs, including Arsenal, where he served as a backup goalkeeper. He made his debut for Arsenal in the League Cup and also played in the final Premier League match of the season. Poom later joined Watford, where he became the team's main goalkeeper.

International Career

Poom has also represented the Estonian national team as their first-choice goalkeeper. He has played in numerous international matches and has been a key player for his country.

As of now, Poom is still playing football and has the potential to reach his 200th Premier League match. He has been a dedicated and experienced goalkeeper throughout his career, and his contributions to the sport have earned him a place in Estonian football history.
