Early Career

Fourcade first started practicing biathlon at the age of 14. He joined the French national team in 2006 and made his debut in the World Cup in the spring of 2008 during the Holmenkollen stage. Prior to that, he had participated in the Junior World Championships in 2007 and 2008, winning a bronze medal in the relay in 2007.

Early Success

Fourcade's first race in the World Cup took place in Oslo in March 2008, where he finished 61st. The following season proved to be more successful for him as he earned his first World Cup points in Hochfilzen, finishing 36th in the individual race and 10th in the sprint. His best result that year came at the 2009 World Championships, where he finished in the top 20 in each event. He ended the season in 24th place overall in the World Cup standings.

Olympic Medal

World Cup Success

Fourcade achieved his first victory in the pursuit event in Kontiolahti and went on to win two more first-place finishes in Oslo, in the sprint and pursuit events. His success in the pursuit races allowed him to win the Pursuit World Cup in the 2009-2010 season, narrowly beating Austrian Simon Eder by just one point. He finished fifth overall in the World Cup standings, ahead of his brother Simon, who ended the season in seventh place.

The following day, he won the gold medal in the pursuit, despite three missed shots.

Before the start of the season, Fourcade shared his goals, stating that he aimed to finish higher in the overall standings than the previous year. He had already moved up from fifth to third place. He hoped to climb two more positions.

Overall World Cup Victory
