Masis Mayilian: A Prominent Figure in Karabakh Politics and Diplomacy

Early Life and Education

Masis Samvelovich Mayilian was born in 1967 in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO). After completing his military service in the Soviet Army from 1986 to 1988, he pursued a degree in Physics and Mathematics at the Stepanakert branch of Kirovakansky Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1991. He furthered his education with a postgraduate degree in Social Psychology at the Armenian State Pedagogical Institute from 1991 to 1992.

Diplomatic Career in Karabakh

Mayilian's diplomatic career commenced in 1992 when he became a leading specialist in the Department of Information and Press under the State Defense Committee of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). With the establishment of the NKR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, he was transferred to the ministry, where he held various positions over the years, including Head of the International Organizations Department, Director of the International Organizations Division, Advisor to the Minister, and Head of the Political Department. He was also a member of the NKR delegation in the negotiations to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

In 1998, Mayilian expanded his diplomatic education by attending the Vienna Diplomatic Academy. In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the NKR.

Political Aspirations

In 2007, Mayilian announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections of the NKR, demonstrating his political ambitions and desire to lead the republic.
