Early Life and Career

Born in Marseille, France on March 7, 1984, Mathieu Flamini joined the youth academy of Olympique Marseille at the age of five. He progressed through the club's youth system and made his debut for the first team in the 2003/04 season. Under the guidance of newly appointed manager Jose Anigo, Flamini quickly established himself in the starting lineup.

Arsenal FC

In 2004, Flamini controversially signed for Arsenal FC on a free transfer, despite not being under contract with Olympique Marseille. He made his debut for the "Gunners" in the 2004/05 season, but initially struggled to find consistency.

Flamini became a regular starter following the departures of Patrick Vieira and Edu. However, an injury crisis in defense forced him to play at left-back, a position he initially found uncomfortable. Despite the criticism, Flamini helped Arsenal reach the final of the 2006 UEFA Champions League.

Return to Midfield and Contract Saga

In the 2006/07 season, Flamini returned to his preferred position in midfield. However, the arrival of Lassana Diarra and the return of Gilberto Silva relegated him back to the bench. Flamini refused to sign a new contract and was linked with moves to Juventus and AC Milan.

AC Milan

In 2008, Flamini joined AC Milan on a four-year contract worth €5.6 million per season. He struggled to adapt to the Italian league and found the team's playing style vastly different from Arsenal's. Consequently, he was moved to the defensive flank.

International Career

Flamini made his debut for the French national team in 2007, replacing the injured Jérémy Toulalan. He has represented his country in numerous competitions, including the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.
