Mathieu Valverde: French Football Goalkeeper

Mathieu Valverde is a French goalkeeper who currently plays for Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. Despite being a young and talented goalkeeper, Valverde has struggled to break into Bordeaux's starting lineup, often serving as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Ulrich Ramé and Frédéric Roux.

Early Career

Valverde was born on May 14, 1983, in Montreuil-sous-Bois, France. He began his career with Bordeaux in 2005, but made only a handful of appearances during his first three seasons with the club.

Bordeaux Debut

In 2008, Valverde finally made his Ligue 1 debut for Bordeaux. He played in three matches that season, including a notable performance in a 2-0 victory over Sochaux. However, he remained a backup goalkeeper behind Ramé and Roux.

Injury Setback

In 2009, Valverde suffered a head injury during a match against Auxerre. He was forced to miss several weeks of action and did not return to the starting lineup until late November, when he played in a UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea.

Continued Backup Role

Despite showing promise and stepping up in key moments, Valverde has continued to serve as a backup goalkeeper for Bordeaux. The arrival of Kevin Olimpa in 2010 provided further competition for playing time, and Valverde has often been forced to settle for a place on the bench.

Personal Life

Valverde stands at 185 cm (6'1") and weighs between 78-80 kg (172-176 lbs). He is married to Laetitia and they have three children.

Career Highlights

Ligue 1: 2008-09 (as a backup goalkeeper)
UEFA Champions League: 2009-10 (as a backup goalkeeper)
