Biography of Menachem Mazuz

Menachem Mazuz was born in 1955 in the city of Djerba, Tunisia. His family migrated to Israel and settled in the town of Netivot in the Negev Desert. After completing his religious school education in Jerusalem, Mazuz served in the Armored Corps of the Israel Defense Forces. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, specializing in public and administrative law. Mazuz worked in the Ministry of Justice, specifically handling petitions submitted to the Supreme Court of the country. From 1991 to 1995, he supervised the legal aspects of Israel's negotiations with Jordan and the Palestinians. For ten years, he served as the Deputy Legal Advisor to the Government.

In January 2004, Mazuz was appointed as the Legal Advisor to the Government. In Israel, the Legal Advisor to the Government is the highest-ranking official in the Attorney General's Office, and the State Attorney reports directly to this position. During his tenure, Mazuz conducted numerous investigations into the activities of high-ranking Israeli politicians, including Ariel Sharon and his son Omri, Ehud Olmert, Moshe Katsav, Haim Ramon, and Dan Halutz.

On January 23, 2007, Israeli media reported that Mazuz had decided to bring several charges against President Katsav, including sexual offenses allegedly committed against four of his former employees. In one instance, rape was mentioned.
