Revolutionary Activism

In St. Petersburg, Azizbekov became involved in student politics and joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1898. As a member of the Bolshevik faction, he actively participated in the 1905-07 Revolution. He was involved in organizing social-democratic groups, strike committees, and working-class militias in Baku.

Underground Work and Leadership

After the 1907 defeat, Azizbekov continued his revolutionary work underground. He established the cultural and educational organization "Nijat-Maarif" to promote enlightenment among Azerbaijani workers. In 1911, he was elected to the Baku City Duma. During World War I, Azizbekov became a prominent leader of the Bolshevik underground in Baku and a strong advocate for the rights of the working class.

Post-February Revolution

Following the February Revolution of 1917, Azizbekov was elected to the Baku Soviet of Workers and Soldiers' Deputies. He played a key role in organizing the Muslim Socialist Party and was elected as its chairman. He also participated in the First Congress of Caucasus Muslims.

Bolshevik Victory and Tragic End

In October 1917, Azizbekov was elected to the Central Strike Committee that led the successful strike in the Baku oil fields. He also became a member of the Baku Soviet's Executive Committee. During the Bolshevik struggle for control of Baku, Azizbekov was appointed Commissar for the Defense of the Muslim Quarters.

After the establishment of Soviet power, Azizbekov served as Deputy People's Commissar for Internal Affairs in the Baku Soviet of National Commissars. After the temporary defeat of Soviet authority in Baku, Azizbekov was captured and executed as one of the 26 Baku Commissars on September 20, 1918.
