Biography of Mike Evans
Mike Evans (Michael Jonas Evans) was an American actor and screenwriter. He was born in 1949 in North Carolina, into a family of a dentist named Theodore Evans and his wife, a teacher named Annie Sue. The family later moved to Los Angeles, where Mike became a student at City College, specializing in acting.
Early Career
During his time in college, Mike began his acting career. One of his first appearances on screen was in the TV series "All in the Family," where he portrayed the character Lionel Jefferson. Being young at the time, his debut in such a popular show turned out to be a great success. In the early 1970s, he appeared in several television movies and series. Among his film credits is the horror movie "The House on Skull Mountain" and a few others that were not particularly notable.
"Good Times" and Screenwriting
In 1974, Evans co-wrote the screenplay for the comedy series "Good Times" with Eric Monte. The show ran for six seasons and enjoyed consistent success. Eventually, Evans became more interested in writing and gradually shifted his focus from acting to screenwriting. Interestingly, his role as Lionel in "All in the Family" was later played by his namesake, Damon Evans.
Career Decline and Later Years
After "Good Times" ended in 1979, Mike was able to return to his role once again until 1981. However, his career experienced a major setback afterward. He did manage to reprise his role as Lionel in the spin-off series "The Jeffersons." But apart from that, he did not have any other successful ventures. In the mid-1970s, Mike also appeared in the short-lived project "Rich Man, Poor Man." Realizing that he might not be able to revive his acting career, Mike Evans ventured into real estate investments, obtaining a license for this activity in 1986. However, he did not achieve much success in this field either.
Legacy and Death
Mike Evans made one more appearance on screens in 2000, in an episode of the popular series "Walker, Texas Ranger" alongside Chuck Norris. After that, his appearances on both the big and small screens came to a halt. Throughout his career, he acted in a total of ten television and film projects, but he is best remembered for creating the show "Good Times." Mike Evans passed away on December 14, 2006, at the age of 57, from throat cancer, at his mother's home in California. He was survived by his daughter, mother, and brother.
