Soviet Ukrainian Party Figure
Early Life and CareerYuriy Illich Khimich was a prominent Soviet Ukrainian party official. Born in 1916, he began his career as a locomotive depot mechanic in 1927, later working as a railway technician. In 1931, he moved into leadership roles in labor unions and the Communist Party.
Party Career in Western Ukraine
During World War II, Khimich served as Second Secretary of the Stanislav City Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU) from 1944 to 1946. He played a significant role in assessing the damages inflicted by the Nazi invasion of Stanislav. After the war, he continued to rise through the party ranks, becoming Second Secretary of the Stanislav Regional Committee of the CPU from 1946 to 1949.
Studies and Leadership in Lviv
In 1949, Khimich enrolled in the Party School at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. After graduating in 1952, he became Secretary of the Lviv Regional Committee of the CPU. In 1954, he was appointed First Secretary of the Lviv Oblast Committee of the CPU, a position he held until 1961.
Leadership in Zhytomyr
From 1961 to 1968, Khimich served as First Secretary of the Zhytomyr Regional Committee of the CPU. During this time, he focused on agricultural development. In 1963 and 1964, he held the position of First Secretary of the Rural Regional Committee of the CPU.
Later Years
From 1968 to 1983, Khimich was a member of the Committee for Party Control under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). He was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the fourth and fifth convocations. After retiring in 1983, he passed away in 2012.
