Early Life and Education
Mykhailo Ivanovych Zveryakov was born on January 4, 1952, in the village of Sofiivka, Mykolaiv district, Odessa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. He graduated from the Odessa Technical School of Gas and Oil Industry in 1971 and worked at the Yevpatoria Oil Base.
Academic Career
In 1971, Zveryakov enrolled in the Odessa Institute of National Economy, where he earned a degree with honors from the credit and economics faculty in 1975. He continued into the postgraduate program in political economy, focusing on the scientific problem of reducing distribution costs. His dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences was successfully defended in 1980.
Following military service in the Soviet Army from 1976 to 1977, Zveryakov resumed his academic career, becoming an Assistant and later Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy from 1980 to 1988.
Administrative Roles
In 1988, Zveryakov took on the role of Vice-Rector for International Relations and Educational Work with Foreign Students. From 1992 to 1995, he pursued a doctoral degree. As a Vice-Rector and professor, he published 48 scientific and scientific-methodological works.
He ventured abroad in 1994-1996, conducting research at the University of Cologne in Germany with support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His doctoral dissertation was successfully defended in 1996, earning him the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences in 1997.
Banking Experience
From 1997 to November 1998, Zveryakov worked as Head of the Management Department of Bank Ukraina. He was then appointed First Deputy Director of Bank Ukraina in Odessa Oblast, a position he held from November 1998 until 2000.
Rectorship of Odessa State Economic University
In 2000, Zveryakov was appointed Rector of Odessa State Economic University. In the same year, he was awarded the academic title of Professor of the Department of General Economic Theory.
Academic Leadership
Zveryakov has served as Chairman of the Commission of the Council of Rectors for the Development of Higher Education in the Odessa Region and holds membership in the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine and the Academy of Economic Cybernetics of Ukraine.
His areas of research interest include methodologies and theories of economic system development, as well as the evolution of institutional structures in transition economies. Over the course of his scientific career, he has published more than 75 works.
Additional Roles
On September 1, 2003, Zveryakov was appointed Head of the Department of General Economic Theory through a competitive selection process.
