Michel Salgado: Legendary Midfielder and Coach
Michel Salgado Fernández (born 22 October 1975) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a right-back and is currently the manager of Girona.
Early Career
Born in Madrid, Michel began his football journey at the youth academy of Rayo Vallecano. He made his La Liga debut for the club in the 1993/94 season against FC Barcelona at the age of 18.
Professional Career
In 1997, Michel was loaned to Almería, where he made 18 appearances and scored one goal. Upon his return to Rayo, he became a key player for the team.
Transition to Coaching
After retiring as a player, Michel joined the coaching staff of Rayo Vallecano's youth academy. In 2019, he was appointed as the head coach of Huesca in La Liga. However, he was dismissed in January 2021 after disappointing results left the team at the bottom of the league.
Girona Appointment
Michel's next managerial role came at Girona in the Segunda División. He has been in charge of the club since June 2021 and has guided them to a promising position in the league table.
