France's Conflict with the US over IraqFrance seems determined not to smooth over its conflict with the United States regarding Iraq. The two countries' positions diverge significantly on the main issue of the sovereignty of the occupied country. Shortly before the transfer of power to the transitional government, Michel Barnier, France's new Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that if the US wants the sovereignty of Iraq to be extremely limited, then France and the majority of EU countries advocate for full sovereignty, including the right of Iraqis to decide the fate of the coalition forces on Iraqi territory.
