Michel van de Korput: A Dutch Football Legend

Early Career

Michel van de Korput embarked on his footballing journey at amateur club WKV. His talent soon led him to the youth academy of Feyenoord, where he honed his skills and aspired to join the first team.

Triumphs at Feyenoord

In 1974, van de Korput made his debut for Feyenoord's first team against Go Ahead Eagles. It wasn't until the 1976/77 season that he established himself in the starting lineup. In 1980, he celebrated his first trophy with Feyenoord, winning the Dutch Cup.

Italian Interlude at Torino

In 1980, van de Korput transferred to Italian club Torino for a fee of 1.5 million guilders. Despite playing for three seasons in Turin, his team consistently finished mid-table in Serie A. Over the course of 72 appearances for Torino, he scored only one goal.

Return to Feyenoord and Success

Van de Korput returned to his former club Feyenoord in 1983. He played a pivotal role in Feyenoord's Dutch Championship and Dutch Cup triumph in 1984. His final match for Feyenoord came in 1985 against AZ, ending in a 1-1 draw. He accumulated 195 appearances and scored 4 goals for the club.

German Adventure at Köln

In 1985, van de Korput joined German club Köln for a fee of 1 million guilders. He debuted in the Bundesliga against Eintracht Frankfurt and advanced to the UEFA Cup final with Köln, but did not participate in the match that the team lost 5-3 to Real Madrid. A serious injury derailed his career at Köln, preventing him from playing for the rest of the 1986/87 season.

Belgian Twilight

In 1987, van de Korput moved to Belgian club Germinal Ekeren, which played in a lower division. Two years later, he switched to another Belgian club, Kapellen, in the fourth tier. In 1991, Michel van de Korput retired from football at the age of 35.

International Career

Van de Korput made his Netherlands national team debut in 1979 as a substitute against Belgium. He represented his country at the 1980 European Championship, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage. In total, he earned 23 caps for the Oranje, playing his final match against Belgium in 1985.
