Early Career and International Debut

Born in the Czech Republic, Jaroslav Modry began his professional hockey career with HC Zlin in the Czech League (1993-1996). He made his international debut with the Czech under-20 team at the 1995 World Junior Championships, playing in seven games but not recording any points.

NHL Draft and Montreal Canadiens

In 1995, Modry was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round (60th overall) of the NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Canadiens in 1996 but struggled to establish himself, playing only 36 games over five seasons (1996-2001) and scoring four points.

American Hockey League Stint

While playing for Montreal, Modry spent the majority of his time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Canadiens' farm teams. He played for the Fredericton Canadiens (1996-1999) and the Quebec Citadelles (1999-2001).

Return to Europe

After leaving North America in 2001, Modry returned to Europe and played for HC Oceláři Třinec during the 2001-02 season. He then moved to Russia, where he represented CSKA Moscow during the 2002-03 campaign.

KHL Career

From 2003 to 2008, Modry played for Sibir Novosibirsk in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He briefly returned to HC Oceláři Třinec for the 2008-09 season before ending his career with HC Litvínov in the 2009-10 season.
