Early Life and Education
Musaib Bagir oglu Bagirov, a renowned hero of the Great Patriotic War and a recipient of the Hero of the Soviet Union title, was born on June 30, 1915, in Elizavetpol, Elizavetpol Governorate. After completing secondary school in 1931, he moved to Baku, where he graduated from the Maritime Technical School in 1933.
Call to Arms and Military Service
In 1941, Bagirov was drafted into the Red Army and deployed to the front in 1942. In 1943, he completed an accelerated course at the Kemerovo Military Infantry School and returned to the front. Assigned to the 206th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 69th Guards Rifle Division, Junior Lieutenant Bagirov participated in the Battle of Kursk and the liberation of Left-Bank Ukraine.
Heroic Deeds
On September 9, 1943, southwest of Zelenkov, Poltava Oblast, Bagirov led an 11-man group that, in the wake of an assault, seized a strategically crucial height. Armed with his sniper rifle, Bagirov killed 28 enemy soldiers and destroyed an artillery gun and its crew using an anti-tank grenade. Despite being wounded, Bagirov and his comrades held their position for over a day, fending off three tanks and killing around 250 soldiers and officers. For his exceptional bravery, Bagirov was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union title on February 22, 1944.
Post-War Life
Following the war, Bagirov joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1944. After recovering from his injuries, he returned to his regiment and fought across Europe. Severely wounded in the final days of the war, he spent eight months in a hospital.
Discharged in October 1945 with the rank of Captain, Bagirov returned to his hometown, Baku. He graduated from a trade technical school in 1946 and initially worked as a foreman of geological exploration. However, a serious accident forced him to retire from physical labor. Subsequently, Bagirov held various positions, including director of a универмаг in Lok-Batan and a grocery store in Baku.
Legacy and Awards
Musaib Bagir oglu Bagirov, a true war hero, passed away on May 17, 1981. He is remembered for his unwavering courage and valor on the battlefield.
