Early Life and Education

Nariman Imranov was born on January 2, 1944, in Shishgaya village, Basarkechar district, in the Armenian SSR. He completed his education at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute in 1969.

Career in KGB

In 1975, Imranov was sent to the KGB Higher School in the USSR. Upon graduating, he served in various positions within the Soviet KGB. In 1986, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the KGB of the Azerbaijan SSR, holding different roles within the organization.

Minister of National Security

On July 3, 1993, Imranov became Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan. He was promoted to Major General on May 15, 1994.

Arrest and Conviction

On October 15, 1994, Imranov was arrested and accused of facilitating the escape of four state criminals from an MNS prison. He faced charges of treason, abuse of power, collaboration in prison escape, destruction of official documents, and withholding of property from detainees. In 1996, he was sentenced to death by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan for treason, later commuted to life imprisonment.

Later Years

By presidential decree, Imranov was stripped of his rank of Major General in February 1996. He was pardoned in 2002.
