Nathan Jawai is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for Galatasaray Liv Hospital in the Turkish Basketball League and Euroleague. He was born on October 10, 1986 in Bamaga, Queensland, Australia.
Early Career
Jawai began his professional career in the National Basketball League (NBL) playing for the Cairns Taipans during the 2007-2008 season. After an impressive season, he caught the attention of NBA scouts and was selected 41st overall in the 2008 NBA Draft.
NBA Career
Jawai initially joined the Indiana Pacers but was quickly traded to the Toronto Raptors. During his time in the NBA, he earned the nickname "Baby Shaq" due to his resemblance to NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal. Despite facing some health issues with his heart, Jawai made his NBA debut on January 21, 2009, playing against the Detroit Pistons.
He later had stints with the Idaho Stampede in the NBA D-League and was eventually traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a complex four-team deal. Jawai was then traded once again to the Minnesota Timberwolves before his NBA career came to a close.
