Biography of Nazar Singh

Nazar Singh, the oldest living Briton, celebrated his 111th birthday with a pint of Stella beer and a glass of whiskey. He believes that his longevity can be easily explained by his healthy lifestyle, strong and restful sleep, and his love for whiskey.

Nazar Singh was born on June 8, 1904. In his lifetime, two world wars broke out, the Titanic sank, humans landed on the moon, and color television was invented. Nazar grew up in Punjab, India, and moved to England in 1965. He worked diligently in a foundry for 25 years while residing in Walsall before retiring and settling in Sunderland in 1989. The centenarian has nine children, 34 grandchildren, and 64 great-grandchildren. He was married to Narain Kaur for 70 years until she passed away 12 years ago at the age of 91. Nazar has never had surgery and still has his own teeth. His hearing is perfect.

Nazar's 62-year-old son, Chain Singh Gill, believes that his father's longevity is the result of a healthy lifestyle. He also adds that Nazar lived so long because of his love for an occasional glass of whiskey. Besides strong drinks, Nazar enjoys milk and almond oil. He regularly eats fruits and sleeps ten hours every night. Recently, his family revealed that Nazar nearly died from an infection but managed to recover. Chain stated, "We thought we would lose him due to the infection. Fortunately, he is currently on the mend. His care and diet played an important role in his survival. He does not eat low-quality food."

Nazar grew up in a village in Punjab, India, and from the age of ten, he helped his family cultivate sugarcane, cotton, corn, wheat, and later chili, peanuts, potatoes, and rice. Born into a peasant family, Nazar loved being outdoors and was a great enthusiast of gardening. He continued his favorite hobby until he turned 107. He met his future wife, Narain, in 1932 when he visited a neighboring village. Later, they had a traditional wedding ceremony.

The 111-year-old Briton had two sisters and four brothers, all of whom have passed away. In early 2015, Singh returned to his native India to spend time with his family. He is currently under the care of his two eldest sons and their wives, with his oldest son being 78 years old.

When Nazar turned 100, he received a congratulatory letter from the British Queen. Since then, he receives such letters every year. He also receives an annual letter and phone call from the Department of Labor and Pensions, expressing their interest in his well-being.

During Nazar's lifetime, the modern automobile, mobile phones, television, computers, and the internet were invented. He lived through the time when women gained the right to vote, Nazi Germany fell, the apartheid era ended, and the Soviet Union dissolved.

Currently, the oldest living person on Earth is Jeralean Talley from the USA, who is 116 years old and was born in 1899. Only two men are older than Nazar Singh, both Japanese - Sakari Momori and Yasutaro Koide, who are both 112 years old and born in 1903.
