Neil Giuliano

Neil Giuliano is an American politician and activist who has served as the Mayor of Tempe, Arizona, from 1994 to 2004. He is the first openly gay mayor in Arizona history.

Early Life and Education

Giuliano was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Tempe, Arizona. He attended Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1979 and a Master of Arts in 1983, both from the Hugh Downs School of Communication.

Political Career

Giuliano began his political career in 1994 when he was elected as Mayor of Tempe. He served for three terms, until 2004. During his tenure, he focused on economic development, environmental sustainability, and LGBTQ+ rights. Giuliano is a member of the Democratic Party.

LGBTQ+ Activism

Giuliano is a prominent LGBTQ+ activist. He has served on the board of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and as its President from 2005 to 2009. Giuliano has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, both locally and nationally.

Personal Life

Giuliano is married to Steve Adubato Jr., a media personality and political commentator. They have two children. Giuliano is a resident of New York City, New York.
