Aleksandra Pivec: A Trailblazer in Slovenian Politics
Early Life and EducationBorn on March 26, 1972, in Ptuj, Slovenia, Aleksandra Pivec embarked on her academic journey at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana. In 1999, she graduated with honors and went on to earn her doctorate in chemical engineering in 2005, specializing in wine fermentation optimization.
Research and Expertise
Pivec devoted 17 years of her career as a research expert at the Bistrica Research and Development Center in Ptuj. Her contributions spanned the development of strategic documents, project management, and coordination. She played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, fostering knowledge transfer and innovation.
Government Career
Pivec's entry into government began in 2016 when she joined the Government Office for Slovenes Abroad. As a Secretary of State from 2017, she spearheaded initiatives to strengthen ties between Slovenes abroad and their homeland.
In 2018, Pivec was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food in Prime Minister Marjan Sarec's government. She continued in this role under Prime Minister Janez Janša's administration in 2020.
Leadership in DeSUS
On January 18, 2020, Pivec was elected Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia (DeSUS). However, allegations of conflicts of interest during her ministerial duties later plunged her into controversy.
Establishment of Naša dežela
Amidst the DeSUS crisis, Pivec resigned from the party and embarked on a new political path. On March 20, 2021, she founded her own political party, Naša dežela (Our Country). The party's focus lies on the well-being of Slovenian citizens, emphasizing sustainability, economic development, and social justice.
