Nikolai Nikolaevich Repin: A Leader in Russian Internet Infrastructure
Nikolai Nikolaevich Repin, the esteemed CEO of MTU-Intel CJSC, has made significant contributions to the development of internet connectivity in Russia.
Early Life and Education
Born in 1959, Repin pursued higher education at Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, where he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics in 1981 with a specialization in "Theory of Algorithms." He went on to successfully defend his PhD dissertation in 1984.
Academic and Scientific Career
Repin's career began in 1981 at the V.A. Steklov Institute of Mathematics. From 1981 to 1994, he steadily rose through the ranks, advancing from a junior researcher to the deputy head of the Information and Publishing Sector.
Internet Pioneer and Industry Leader
In 1994, Repin took the helm of the Moscow Internet project, funded by the International Science Foundation (Soros Foundation). His contributions were instrumental in this project's success.
In 1997, Repin joined MTU-Inform as Director of Internet Technologies. Under his leadership, this area flourished and eventually became a separate entity known as MTU-Intel. Within two years, MTU-Intel had established itself as the largest provider of dial-up internet access in Russia.
Repin's responsibilities at MTU-Intel expanded to include the role of Deputy General Director. In August 2000, he was appointed CEO of PTT-Teleport Moscow, tasked with coordinating the internet businesses of MTU-Intel and PTT-Teleport.
In September 2001, MTU-Intel acquired 100% of PTT-Teleport Moscow's shares. Repin has since continued to lead MTU-Intel as its General Director.
Industry Involvement and Recognition
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Repin serves as Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Documentary Electronic Communications Association, where he oversees internet initiatives. His contributions to the industry were recognized in 2000 when he was named the Best Manager in the Telecommunications category by the "Kompaniya" magazine.
Personal Life
Repin is married and enjoys sailing as a hobby (holding a 1st-level qualification).
