Daniel Theis' Early Life and Collegiate Career
Daniel Theis, a German professional basketball player, was born in Salzgitter, Germany. He began playing basketball at a young age. Theis attended the University of Connecticut from 2011 to 2014 and was a member of the Connecticut Huskies men's basketball team. He played a key role in the Huskies' NCAA tournament victories in 2011 and 2014. Along with teammates Shabazz Napier and Tyler Olander, Theis became the only trio in Division I men's college basketball history to win NCAA championships as both freshmen and seniors.
Professional Career
After his collegiate career, Theis entered the 2014 NBA Draft but went undrafted. He then signed a three-year contract with Alba Berlin of the German Basketball League. Theis spent five seasons with Alba Berlin, winning the German championship in 2019 and 2020. In 2017, he was named the German Basketball Player of the Year.
National Team Career
Theis has been a member of the German national basketball team since 2013. He has represented Germany at the 2013 and 2015 EuroBasket tournaments, as well as the 2017 EuroBasket qualification.
NBA Career
In July 2017, Theis signed a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics. He quickly became a valuable contributor for the Celtics, averaging 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in his first season. In 2021, he helped the Celtics reach the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. Theis played an important role in the Celtics' success and was recognized as a reliable defender and rebounder.
