Voevoda Beklemishev
Beklemishev served as the voevoda (commandant) of Saratov from 1707 to 1713. He was the brother of fellow voevoda Vasily Beklemishev.
Resistance against Bulavin
In 1708, Beklemishev played a pivotal role in organizing the resistance against the Bulavin rebellion. When Kondraty Bulavin besieged Saratov on May 26th, government officials feared the town's betrayal, but Beklemishev held firm. The first assault on the city was repelled on the night of May 26th-27th. On May 29th, the rebels launched a second assault, but it was thwarted by the joint efforts of the Saratov garrison and a 4,000-strong contingent of Kalmyks.
Wealth and Lineage
Beklemishev was a wealthy landowner. His residence, described in the 1940 book "Essays on the History of Saratov," measured approximately 264 square meters in modern units. He hailed from a family of Nizhny Novgorod noblemen. His known family members include his brother, voevoda Vasily Pakhomovich, and his sister, Avdotya Pakhomovna. In 1706, Avdotya married nobleman Alexei Tikhonovich Shakhatov, who participated in numerous military campaigns against Kalmyks, Cossacks, and Kuban Tatars. Their lavish wedding featured month-long festivities, and Shakhatov received a dowry of three male and two female peasants.
