Early Life and Family

Nikolai Halushko was born on December 5, 1979, in the village of Argaiazh, Russia, to Leonid Halushko, a Soviet police officer. His father was later transferred to Ukraine as part of his police duties, eventually rising to the position of head of the regional anti-organized crime department (UBOP).

Business Ventures

Leveraging his father's connections in law enforcement, Nikolai Halushko established a private security company called "Galid" in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. In 2001, he graduated from the National Academy of Internal Affairs, majoring in Law. He then worked for the UBOP of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv Oblast from 2002 to 2005.

Public Service and Politics

In 2017, Halushko became an advisor to the director of the State Enterprise for Alcohol and Spirits Industry of Ukraine ("Ukrspirt"), while concurrently serving as the director of Galid. He also pursued further education, graduating from the Institute of Advanced Qualification of Kyiv National Trade and Economic University with a degree in Economics.

During the 2019 Ukrainian presidential election, Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Halushko as his authorized representative in the 97th electoral district. He subsequently joined the "Servant of the People" party.

Election to Parliament

On June 20, 2019, Halushko registered as a candidate for the 97th electoral district on the Servant of the People ticket. At the time of the election, he was still the director of Galid and resided in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast. He emerged victorious in the parliamentary race, receiving over 38% of the votes.

Parliamentary Career

Halushko became a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement. However, his tenure has been marked by controversy.

Controversies

In December 2020, Halushko was involved in an incident where he used foul language against police officers who had stopped his driver for violating traffic regulations. The driver was subsequently deprived of his license for a year and fined 10,200 hryvnia for refusing to allow the police to search his vehicle.

The incident sparked a debate about the need for a law imposing fines for insulting police officers.
