Nicolae Calancea
Early Life and CareerNicolae Calancea, a Moldavian footballer, was born into a sporting family, with his older brother, Valeriu, being a world and European champion in weightlifting. Calancea began his football journey at FC Zimbru Chișinău, rising through the youth ranks and eventually making his debut with the senior team in 2006.
Career at FC Zimbru
Within a short period, Calancea established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Zimbru, showcasing exceptional skills and leadership qualities. In 2007, he led the team to the Moldavian Cup title and was recognized as the league's best goalkeeper. The following year, he captained Zimbru and was voted the team's Player of the Season.
Brief Stint at Krylia Sovetov
In February 2008, Calancea was loaned to Russian Premier League club Krylia Sovetov Samara until the end of May. However, his time in Samara was short-lived, as he made only three appearances for the club's reserve team before returning to Zimbru.
International Career
Calancea made his international debut for the Moldavian national team in August 2006. He went on to play in 11 matches, keeping four clean sheets. During his time with the national team, he faced teams such as Romania, Greece, and Turkey.
Achievements and Controversies
Calancea's accolades include winning the Moldavian Cup with FC Zimbru in 2007 and being named the league's best goalkeeper the same year. Notably, in the 2007 Moldavian Super Cup match against Sheriff Tiraspol, he received both a yellow and a red card after the game ended, highlighting his competitive nature.
Later Career
After returning from Krylia Sovetov, Calancea continued to play for FC Zimbru until 2010. He later represented CSCA Chișinău and FC Academia UTM.
